Common questions

When can toddlers have snacks?

Most pediatricians recommend introducing snacks around 12 months, between main meals. Aim for whole foods first, packaged snacks as a supplement.

Why no added sugar for toddlers?

The AAP (2019) recommends avoiding added sugar for children under 2 entirely because early sweet-taste exposure shapes lifelong food preferences and can displace nutrient-dense foods.

What about honey?

Honey is not safe under 12 months (botulism risk). After 12 months it's safe but still counts as added sugar - we flag it in ingredients.

Are pouches okay for toddlers?

Occasional pouches are fine. Pediatricians note that frequent pouch use can limit chewing development - serve them as a convenient option, not a staple.

What makes a snack "toddler appropriate"?

Soft or dissolvable texture, no choking hazards, appropriate serving size, and minimal added sugar. Our Jev classifier flags the minimum age band for each product.
